Install Google Pixel 2 Boot Animation On Any Android Device
Not getting enough of Pixel 2? Here's another goodie from Google's latest flagship device. You can now install Google Pixel 2 boot animation on your device.
Apart from the new launcher with the bottom search bar, motion pictures in camera, Google Lens, Active Edge, and the Google Product Sans font, the Pixel 2 brings another aesthetic feature that you'll almost find just as you switch ON the device. Yes, I am talking about the boot animation. In my opinion, an ugly looking boot animation can probably kill all the good vibes about a phone. Sounds unreal? Try it once. Anyways, at least that's not the case with the Pixel 2. It has got one very beautiful boot animation. So, if you too want to have it, then follow the simple steps below on how to install Google Pixel 2 boot animation on your Android phone.
How to Get Google Pixel 2 Boot Animation on Your Device
The Google Pixel 2 features a fresh and sturdy boot animation. Comparing it to the one on previous year's Pixel and the Nexus devices, the new animation feels much neater and adds a more premium outlook to the device.
Over time, since the official release of the Pixel 2, we have slowly, but steadily got to enjoy the device's exclusive features on our non-Pixel devices. However, in most scenarios it was imperative that our device must be rooted. It's probably something similar here.
While you can manually replace the boot animation file in your phone's /system partition, but it could potentially be a lot of work, when we have much simpler methods. So, XDA senior member - Rishi2906 has come up with a flashable zip that will easily install the Google Pixel 2 boot animation on any Android device using TWRP. However, in case the flashable zip does not work for you, we will also be listing the steps to manually install the Google Pixel 2 boot animation.
XDA member Rishi2906 has also released 3 other dark variants of the boot animation for those who love a little dark than the generic white. We hope someone brings up a Magisk Module for the same because that will be much easier to apply and remove.
Before You Install
Since this mod is meant to work on multiple OEM devices, it is pretty hard to make a rollback installer zip for each and every device. So, we would recommend that you first take a backup of your original boot animation (bootanimation.zip) file.
To do so, use a root-enabled file manager app (e.g. Solid Explorer) and navigate to /System/Media. Copy the 'bootanimation.zip' to a secure location, like your phone's storage or you may even transfer it to the PC.
Option 1: Installing via TWRP
- Download the TWRP flashable Pixel 2 boot animation:
- Dark v1: DARKPixel2Bootanimation-Generic.zip
- If you have downloaded the *.zip file to your PC, make sure to transfer it to your device's storage.
- Boot your phone into TWRP recovery mode using the special buttons combination.
- Once your phone has entered TWRP, go to the 'Install' menu.
- Navigate through the device's storage and select the boot animation *.zip file (e.g. Pixel2Bootanimation-Generic.zip).
- Then, swipe the 'Swipe to confirm Flash' button.
- The flashing process shouldn't take more than a few seconds.
- Once it is complete, press the 'Reboot System' on-screen button. Now, in case this method doesn't work for you and had no effect on the boot animation, then you will have to do it manually. Just follow the process below.
Option 2: Manual Installation
- Download the 'bootanimation.zip' file for the variant your want:(click here for accessing the download files)
- Install a root-enabled file manager on your device. We will be using 'Solid Explorer' (Play Store link | APK link) for demonstrating the process. However, you may choose any other file manager application of your choice.
- Open 'Solid Explorer' app from the app drawer.
- Swipe out from the left-edge of the screen and select 'Root'.
- If you are doing this for the first time, you will need to grant root permissions to the app.
- Navigate to /System/Media folder.
- Copy the 'bootanimation.zip' file to the /System/Media folder and replace the original zip when prompted.
- Once the file has been copied, long press the 'bootanimation.zip' to select it.
- Tap on the 3-dot overflow menu on the top-right and select 'Properties'.
- Go to the 'ATTRIBUTES' tab and grant 644 permissions (-rw-r--r--).
- Finally, tap on 'APPLY' and reboot your phone.
Now when your phone boots, you shall see the Pixel 2 boot animation on the device's screen. We are pretty sure that you will love this new Pixel 2 boot animation on your Android.
