Motorola Releases Kernel Source Code For Moto X Play

Motorola assured the Moto X Play owners last year that they will be getting the Nougat 7.0 update. For some unknown reason Motorola didn't update the X Play to Android 7.0. In June, however, Motorola started rolling out the Nougat 7.1.1 update for the X Play. It's been more than five months since then and the kernel source code for that update has finally been released.

Because Android's Linux based kernel is licensed under GPL, companies have to share any modifications they make to it. These modifications are shared in the form of kernel source code.

Kernel source codes help developers to build custom ROMs, recoveries and custom kernels for their devices. There are already several Nougat based ROMs available for the Moto X Play, including official builds of LineageOS. The Nougat 7.1.1 based kernel source code will help in making the custom ROMs even more stable. The source code can be found in the source linked below.
