Nokia 7 won't launch in India anytime soon
The Nokia 7 was rumored to be launched in India at HMD's October 31 event. But that did not happen, instead, HMD Global launched the entry-level Nokia 2, which is the company's most affordable offering till date. However, it appears that Nokia 7 won't be launching anytime soon in the country.
At the sidelines of the Nokia 2 event, HMD Global's Chief Marketing Officer Pekka Rantala in an interview with the Indian Express, said that HMD has no plans to launch the Nokia 7 in India.
He said that “Nokia 7 is designed for Chinese consumers, so currently we’ve no plans to bring it to India”
As a reminder, the Nokia 7 is an upper mid-range phone (like Moto X4) and is positioned between Nokia 6 and Nokia 8. It features 5.2-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 630 processor,4GB/6GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, 16MP/5MP camera, fingerprint scanner and 3000mAh battery. It carries a price tag equivallent to Rs. 24,000.
It appears that, not all Nokia phone released by HMD are designed to cater to the global audience. For instance, the Nokia 8 made its debut in the U.K (available in India as well), but didn't make it to the U.S and China. Also in select Europe markets, Nokia released 6GB RAM model of Nokia 8.
Speaking of the Nokia 2, the entry-level device was launched earlier this week in India. It features 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 8MP/5MP camera, 4100mAh battery, and a promise for Oreo upgrade. It has been priced around Rs.7,500, which is much higher given that similar spec'd devices are currently launching in the Indian market for as low as Rs. 2,000. But Nokia has its iconic brand name to its advantage, which is enough to drive the sales of their phones, no matter how much they cost.
