Twitter Ups The Character Limit Of Tweets To 280 For Everyone

In September Twitter started testing 280 character limit per tweet with few users. Now Twitter is finally ending the iconic 140-character limit, and giving everyone 280 characters. 

The 280 character limit is aimed at drawing more user engagement on Twitter. According to Twitter nine percent of tweets written in English hit the 140 character limit, and people end up spending more time editing and modifying the tweet or don't tweet them at all.

During the 280 character limit test, this problem was reduced and the number of users modifying their tweets dropped from nine percent to only one percent.

Talking about brevity, Twitter says only five percent of tweets sent were longer than 140 characters, and only two percent were over 190 characters, As a result, your timeline reading experience won't change substantially, and you'll see about the same amount of tweets in your timeline.

That being said, users tweeting in Japanese, Korean and Chinese will continue to have 140 characters, because space limitation is not an issue in these languages.
