Airtel launches 4G services in Ladakh region
The telecommunication services in India's north frontier Ladakh is patchy and the internet services are beyond reach. However, the scenario is changing now and consumers will be able to enjoy affordable 4G services in the region.
As part for its Project Leap initiative, Airtel today launched its 4G services in Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir. The leading telecom player claims that it the first operator to provide high-speed data services in the area.
The 4G LTE service will be available for local Airtel customers as well as tourist in 130 town and cities including Kargil, Leh and Dras. Moreover Airtel customers will also be able to access 4G internet in popular spots such as the Kargil War Memorial, Magnetic Hill, Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, Thiksey Monastery, Lamayuru Monastery, Moon Land Lamayuru, Sakti towards Pangong Lake, Stok Palace and Hall of Fame.
Being on of the coldest region in the country where temperature go down to -40 degree in winter, Airtel had to overcome major hurdles to deploy the 4G services in Ladakh. "Airtel's network teams and partners have overcome the challenge of extremely difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions, including sub-zero temperatures, to deploy a state-of-the-art 4G network in the region," it said in a statement.
As mentioned earlier, the deployment of the 4G services in Ladakh is part of Airtel's ongoing network transformation program - Project Leap. Under Project Leap, Airtel’s nationwide 4G footprint now spans Ladakh in the North to Kanyakumari in the South and Tawang in the East to Kutch in the West. Airtel has committed over Rs 60,000 crores of investment for the initiative.
