OnePlus 5T is not able to stream Netflix, Amazon Prime Video in HD, fix coming soon

The OnePlus 5T is the latest flagship from OnePlus 5 boasting a large 6-inch Full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a powerful hardware. Even though the device packs modern flagfship grade specs, it appears that it is not able to stream HD content from some video streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play Movies and others.

The issue was pointed out in the OnePlus forums and the discussion there reveals that OnePlus 5T is missing support for Widevine Level 1 DRM, which many services require to stream HD content.

The OnePlus 5T currently support Widevine Level 3, which only covers standard definition streams. According to the Verge, even OnePlus 5T's predecessor, the OnePlus 5 is also unable to stream Netflix or Amazon Prime Video higher than SD resolution.

The publication reached OnePlus, who confirmed the issue and said that it will roll out an update to enable Widevine Level 1 to support HD-streaming support on the devices. However, no timeline was given when the update will be released. It is also not clear why the support was missing in the first place.

To recap the the specs, the OnePlus 5T comes with Snapdragon 835 chip, 6GB/8GB RAM, 64GB/128GB storage, 16MP+20MP dual cameras, 16MP seflie camera, dual-SIM slot, 4G VoLTE, USB Type-C, 3.5mm audio jack and 3300mAh battery with Dash Charge support.
