Samsung Pay update add bill payment feature in India
Samsung India has rolled out a major update to the Samsung Pay app, which will enable users to pay monthly utility bills within the app itself. The addition comes soon after Google added bill payments feature (coming soon) to its Tez app.
Samsung Pay now supports payment of mobile postpaid, electricity, DTH and utility bills. In the updated Samsung Pay app now you'll see a new 'Pay Bills' option on the home screen. Then you have to add various service providers.
The mobile postpaid companies supported include Airtel, BSNL, Idea, Tata Docomo and Vodafone. DTH subscribers can pay bill for operators including Airtel Digital TV, Sun Direct, Tata Sky and Dish TV. In case of electricity bills Samsung Pay supports BEST Mumbai, BSES, Maharashtra State Electricty Distribution, Tata Power, Reliance Energy and Noida Power.
For broadband bills, Samsung Pay is supported by ACT Fibernet, BSNL, Connect and MTNL Delhi Broadband, while landline payments include BSNL, Airtel and MTNL.
Once you have added the services, the app will alert you when the respective bill is generated. The bill payment is highlighted on the Pay Bills page along with due date. You can even add reminders for the bills whether it is daily, weekly or monthly.
In addition, Samsung Pay will now let you save bank account of your friends and family in UPI, to make it easier to transfer money. Lastly, the update also brings the option to add money to mobile wallet services like Paytm, Mobiwik and more from saved credit and debit cards.
The update carrying the new features weighs in at 80MB in size. To get it, open the Samsung Pay app, tap on the three dots on the top right, then Settings >> About Samsung Pay >> Update. Currently Samsung Pay is supported only on select Samsung's Galaxy A, Galaxy S and Galaxy Note models.
