TWRP 3.2.0-0 Is Out With Enhanced Compatibility For Oreo, Improvements To Backing-Restoring Process & More

TWRP has been the go to recovery for many of us flashaholics. And it's rightly so because over the years Team Win have been working hard on improving their recovery, adding new features regularly, squashing bugs and sharing their work openly with the community.

Team Win have now bumped up TWRP to 3.2. This isn't a major release by any means but what I would call as a maintenance release. It's been well over three months since Google released the sources of Oreo to AOSP and as is the case with every new Android release, the folks behind TWRP work on improving the compatibility of their recovery with the new version of Android. TWRP 3.2 does exactly that. The recovery has been rebased to Oreo and it also consists of numerous legacy props that should improve support for installing Oreo based flashable ZIPs.

There are some fixes for the Pixel 2 which in particular should improve the decryption of synthetic passwords. It is now easier than ever to restore backups made via ADB. TWRP now includes an option in its interface using which the ADB backups can be restored from the recovery itself. There are also several bug fixes for making backups and restoring them. The complete changelog can be found below.

  • Allow restoring adb backups in the TWRP GUI (bigbiff)
  • Fix gzip backup error in adb backups (bigbiff)
  • Fix a bug in TWRP's backup routines that occasionally corrupted backup files (nkk71)
  • Better support for installing Android 8.0 based zips due to legacy props (nkk71)
  • Support vold decrypt with keymaster 3.0 in 8.0 firmwares (nkk71)
  • Decrypt of synthetic passwords for Pixel 2 (Dees_Troy)
  • Support newer ext4 FBE policies for backup and restore in libtar (Dees_Troy)
  • v2 fstab support (Dees_Troy)
  • Bring TWRP forward to android 8.0 AOSP base (Dees_Troy)
  • Various other minor bugfixes and tweaks

The stable builds of TWRP 3.2.0-0 are now rolling out for most of the supported devices. You can grab the new release from either TWRP's website or using the TWRP app. If TWRP 3.2 isn't available for your supported device right now, it will soon be. TWRP's lead developer Ethan Yonker (Dees_ Troy) wrote on Google+ that the TWRP 3.2 builds failed for several devices. Yonker went on to say that the builds for all the devices will be fixed eventually, however you may have to wait for "several days".
