Xiaomi Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus goes official with 18:9 display
As expected Xiaomi is expanding its budget Redmi series with the addition of two new phones: Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. Both have received a major upgrade over their predecessor, and gets a front panel with minimal bezels and large screen boasting 18:9 aspect ratio. They run Android Nougat based MIUI 9 and also gets selfie flash, and dedicated slots for dual-SIMs and microSD card.
Speaking of the Redmi 5 first, it comes with 5.7-inch HD+ curved glass display and is powered by Snapdragon 450 octa-core chip clocked at 1.8GHz. It will be offered in two configurations: 2GB RAM with 16GB storage and 3GB RAM with 32GB storage. The storage is expandable via microSD card.
For photography it ships with 12MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. Both front and rear camera have dedicated flash module. The phone is fueled by 3300mAh battery and supports 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. It also includes infrared sensor and a rear mounted fingerprint scanner.
The Redmi 5 Plus on the hand features a bigger 5.99-inch Full HD+ display and is powered by 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 chip. It packs 4000mAh battery and come in two RAM/storage configurations: 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. It is also equipped with 12MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. The rest of the features are same as Redmi 5.
The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus comes in Black, Blue, Gold and Rose Gold colors. As for the pricing, the Redmi 5 2GB/16GB model is priced at CNY 799 ($120 | Rs. 7,800) and the 3GB/32GB model costs CNY 899 ($135 | Rs. 8,800).
The 3GB/32GB Redmi 5 Plus costs CNY 999 ($151 | Rs. 9,800), while the 4GB/64GB model will set you back by CNY 1299 ($195 | Rs. 12,700) These phones will go on sale in China starting December 12.
