January 2018 OTA & System Images Are Now Available For Pixel & Nexus Devices

Google releases a new security patch on the first Monday of every month. Along with the security patches, the search giant also posts OTA and system images for the devices it supports via software updates. The first day of 2018 - January 1 - was a Monday, but probably due to the holiday season, the security patches weren't released then. Google has now released the January 2018 security patches along with the factory and OTA images for the Nexus and Pixel devices.

The Android Security Bulletin has been updated with the January patches (the Pixel Security Bulletin is yet to be updated). The security patches for this month are divided into two levels dated January 1 and January 5. The latter security patch will secure your device the most. The most critical vulnerability fixed with these patches was found to be in Android's Media Framework. In words of Google, by exploiting this vulnerability a hacker "could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process."

The build numbers for this update can be found below. If your device is included in the list below, you will be getting an OTA update for this security patch. If you can't wait, you can flash the OTA or system images manually via ADB. Google says that the January security patch will be uploaded to AOSP within two days.
