OnePlus Releases New OxygenOS Open Beta Builds For OnePlus 5 & 5T
OnePlus has lately been in the spotlight for negative reasons. One of the OxygenOS Open Beta builds released by the Chinese company was recently found to be making data transmissions to an Alibaba controlled server. Although we later on realized that we created a fuss out of nothing (that is OnePlus wasn't at fault at all), OnePlus got a lot of bad repute because of this. OnePlus is now working on winning back the trust of its consumers. Yesterday, OnePlus released a new beta build for the OnePlus 3/3T which got rid of the aforementioned data transmissions. OnePlus has now released new beta builds for both the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
Although OnePlus has released separate beta builds for both the OP5 and OP5T, the changelog for both the builds is same. It appears to me that OnePlus will be unifying the beta builds for the OP5 and OP5T, just like it has done for the OP3 and OP3T. The major takeaways from the changelog are inclusion of an updated launcher, the OnePlus Switch application for migrating data from your old OnePlus device to a new one, and a bunch of battery related optimizations. The complete changelog can be found below:
Launcher:
- Launcher Updated to v2.3

- Notification dot optimization
- The Blue notification dots present to notify you of a newly installed app will now be removed automatically after 15 days

- We’ve added some new helpful tips for first use of the launcher
System:
- Optimizations for logic managing high power consumption applications
- Added a more intelligent background application management solution
- Improved power consumption measurements

- We’ve added the new OnePlus switch app so moving your information to a new OnePlus device will be easier than ever

- Dialer
- More caller information now given to you during incoming call notification
OnePlus has asked both the OP5 and OP5T users to note that they may run into problems while using third party camera applications. If you are using an old beta build, you will be getting an OTA update notification for this build. In case you aren't using any of the OxygenOS Open Beta builds, but would like to, then you can refer to the download links in the source. The download links also comprise of instructions on how to install the beta build. It's also worth noting here that once you move over to the beta builds, you will only receive the beta updates and not the stable updates. If you would like to move back to the stable builds in the future, then that would require a wipe of the data partition, which essentially means that all your contacts, messages and applications will be erased. I would recommend moving to the beta program only if you are comfortable with its negatives, that is the lack of stable updates and the buggy nature of the software.
