HMD Global Rolling Out Oreo 8.1 To Nokia 5 & Nokia 6 (2017)

Overtime HMD Global has made itself known for keeping all of its devices up to date with the newest Android version and the latest security patch. The Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 (2017) got the March security patch at the beginning of the month and now the two smartphones are being updated to Android 8.1 (from Android 8.0).

Oreo 8.1 update on the Nokia 5

The update changelog is as follows:

- Battery Saving Navigation Buttons

- Revamped Power Menu

- New Settting Menu

- Bluetooth Battery Percentage

- Update Google Security Patch 2018-03

Oreo 8.1 on the Nokia 6

The build number for both the first generation Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 is 5.580. In case of the Nokia 5, the update size is 867MB and that for the Nokia 6 is 875MB. As mentioned in the screenshots, the update can only be downloaded over WiFi.

As is the case with most of the updates, this one too is being rolled out via OTA. This means that you will have to wait for the update notification to show up on your phone. If the update hasn't shown up till now, you can try pulling it manually by heading over to Settings > System > System update > Check for update.
