Jio Offering Free One Year Prime Membership To Current Users Who Express Their "Interest"

The Prime membership of all Jio consumers is set to expire tonight at midnight. However, Reliance Jio is giving users a chance to renew their Prime membership for free. In a statement, Jio said, "All Jio PRIME members who have subscribed to the exclusive membership benefits till 31st March 2018 will get another year of complimentary PRIME benefits at NO additional fee."

Jio's statement further stated on how users can extend the Prime membership. According to Jio, "To avail these benefits, open the MyJio app on your smartphone, click 'Get Now' button on the Jio Prime banner at the top of the screen, and click on proceed. You will get a confirmation of successful registration on the screen. Please note this is a limited period offer."

I followed the aforementioned steps for extending the Prime membership of the two Jio connections I own. When I opened the MyJio app on each of my two smartphones (I use the two Jio SIMs on separate handsets), I got the red banner in one of them. The banner didn't show up on the other smartphone. I tried to clear the data of the MyJio app on the latter smartphone (clearing the data of an app is equivalent to reinstalling it). However, even after that the banner didn't load.

In case of the first smartphone - on which the banner showed up - I wasn't able to complete the extension of the Prime membership. I got the above screen after I tapped on the 'Get Now' button.

I called up Jio's customer care and the representative told me that there is "a technical issue in the MyJio app" owing to which my request couldn't be processed and the banner didn't load. The representative assured me that the technical issue will be resolved within twelve hours, that is by 12PM tomorrow. I talked to several representatives and each of them told me the same thing.

I'm not sure how the fix for the issue will be pushed. It may be in the form of an update to the MyJio app or it just might be a server side fix. I would advise you to ensure that you are using the latest version of the MyJio app (Play Store | APK). It's also worth noting here that today isn't the deadline for renewing the membership. The free extension is a limited time offer which will last for at least the next couple of days.

For new customers, Jio Prime membership will continue to cost Rs 99 and will be valid till March 31, 2019. The benefits of Jio's Prime membership include low cost tariffs (and discounts on them), and free access to Jio's suite of apps which include JioTV, JioMusic, JioCinema and much more. Jio values the content offered by it's suite of apps at Rs 10,000.
