Motorola Releases Oreo 8.0 Kernel Source Code For Moto Z (2016), Official Roll Out To Begin Soon
OEMs usually release kernel source codes after they start rolling out the update. Motorola, however, is taking a different approach. The 2016 Moto Z is yet to be updated to Android 8.0, but the Oreo kernel source code for the device is already available. This isn't the first time Motorola has done this. Last year, Motorola released the Nougat kernel source code of the Moto X Pure 2015 ahead of the update roll out.
Kernel source codes are helpful for developers who wish to build custom ROMs, kernels and recoveries for a device. Several stable Oreo based ROMs are currently available for the Moto Z on the XDA forums. The release of the kernel source code means that these ROMs would become even more stable.

Motorola has been doing a soak test for the Oreo 8.0 update since December. Now that the kernel source code has been released, it means that the official Android 8.0 roll out for the Moto Z would begin soon.
