[UPDATE #2: Event Details] It's Official: OnePlus 6 Will Be Launched On May 17

Given that OnePlus had officially started talking about its upcoming flagship, it was clear that the OnePlus 6 was around the corner. Up until now, we didn't know when the 6 was to be announced, but now we have a launch date.

OnePlus is all set to unveil the 6 on May 17 (Thursday). The event will take place in Bejing at 10AM local time (07:30AM IST Thursday, 02:00AM GMT Thursday). And like the launch of the OnePlus 5T, the event will be open to both press and fans. OnePlus will be selling tickets for the launch event starting April 27 at 10AM. Each ticket costs 99 Yuan (~ $15 USD), but OnePlus is giving its Chinese fans a chance to attend the launch event for free. All the fans need to do is log into QQ Speed Racing and use the "Rookie Car" to complete the race on the "Let's Love It" racetrack. Fans would have to take a screenshot of their car crossing the endpoint and upload it to this thread. Select OnePlus fans would be contacted with one ticket for the OP6 launch event which includes one-night hotel stay and a round-trip air ticket. The contest runs until the midnight of May 1. Additionally, OnePlus is also giving China residents a chance to win the OnePlus 6 by leaving a response on the "OnePlus Technology" WeChat number.

On OnePlus' Chinese and Indian website, the event tagline reads as "The Speed You Need". We already know that the OnePlus 6 will feature the Snapdragon 845, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage, and a glass back. OnePlus' China website mentions the event date, but the India website states it as "Coming Soon". We don't have an Indian launch date yet, but you can expect the launch event in Beijing to be live streamed. We will keep you posted on the developments.

Shortly after we published this article, OnePlus tweeted that the 6 will be launching on May 16. OnePlus' China website still mentions the date as May 17. OnePlus has also updated its Indian website stating that the launch event will take place in Mumbai at 3PM IST. The China launch is slated for a day after the Indian launch, so it's likely that the OnePlus 6 will be announced globally on May 16, followed by a separate launch event for China on May 17. OnePlus is yet to give out other details about the launch event. We will keep you posted if there are any further updates.

The global launch will take place at an event in London on May 16 at 05:00PM GMT (10:30PM IST). If you reside in London, you can get a ticket for the event at an early-bird price of £16 until April 27th, after which the bid price will be increased to £30. If you have a friend to tag along, you can get two tickets for £20. 

OnePlus will also be broadcasting the event live on its Facebook page and YouTube channel.
