Asus Releases Kernel Source Code & Bootloader Unlock App For ZenFone Max Pro M1
The ZenFone Max Pro M1 is the latest smartphone to hit the Indian budget market and it is already making waves thanks to its incredible price to performance ratio. The Max Pro M1 is competing with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, both of which have received excellent support from developers through custom ROMs. For the development of custom ROMs, kernel source codes and bootloader unlock is required. Asus has now released a bootloader unlock app and kernel source code for the Max Pro M1.
The bootloader unlock app can be downloaded from here. However, unlocking the bootloader via the official app will void the warranty and the unlocked device will not get any stable updates. There is an unofficial method to unlock the bootloader which will neither void the warranty nor break the stable updates.
In addition to the development of custom ROMs, kernel source codes are used by developers to build custom recoveries and custom kernels. Android uses the Linux kernel at its base and since the Linux kernel is licensed under GPLv2, it is mandatory for every company to share the modifications they make to the Linux kernel. This means every company that makes an Android device has to share its kernel source code and Asus has done just that.
The release of the kernel source code will help in attracting consumers and developers who wish to tinker with their devices. The development of custom ROMs for the ZenFone Max Pro M1 will help the smartphone compete better with the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. The kernel source code can be found at the GitHub link in the source.
