OnePlus 6 Launched For $529 : Snapdragon 845, 6.28" OLED 19:9 Display, 4K 60fps & More
We already knew a lot about the OnePlus 6, and today at an event in London, the phone was officially announced. Starting at $529 (Rs 35,826), the OnePlus 6 is the most expensive smartphone from OnePlus and costs $30 more than the OnePlus 5T whose base model was priced at $499. OnePlus' phones are known for their stellar performance and for that the OnePlus 6 comes with top of the line hardware - 6GB/8GB RAM and Snapdragon 845.
Yes, the OnePlus 6 has a notch and a headphone jack |
The OnePlus 6 is slightly shorter than its predecessor, but still manages to pack in a 6.28" 19:9 OLED panel in comparison to the 5T's 6" 18:9 display. The larger display is a result of the thinner chin and the notch at the top. The screen to body ratio comes out as 84% which is four percent more than the 5T.
The back is made of glass, but there is no support for wireless charging. Unlike the 5 and 5T's horizontal camera placements, the 6 features a 16MP+20MP camera setup which sits upright and is aligned vertically in the center. The camera, like the 5 and 5T, does protrude out of the phone. In the OnePlus 5, the secondary telephoto camera at the back was used for taking portrait shots. With the 5T, OnePlus swapped the telephoto lens with a low-light optimized camera. For the OP6, OnePlus is back to the approach it used with the OP5. The secondary camera (OnePlus didn't specify the type) is used as a depth sensor for creating the bokeh effect. OnePlus says that after clicking a portrait, the user doesn't need to wait for the bokeh to be applied as the portrait image is processed very quickly and the results are instant.
The OnePlus 6's 16MP rear camera will also be able to capture slow-motion videos - 1080p at 240fps and 720p at 480fps. The major highlight of the rear cameras is the ability to take 4K videos at 60 frames per second. Both the back camera sensors have support for Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). The front camera is a 16MP sensor with 1µm size and f/1.7 aperture. OnePlus has said that portrait selfie mode will be added to the front camera in a software update. As for the videos, the selfie camera can shoot 30fps videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p. The front camera sensor doesn't have OIS, but EIS is used to stabilize the videos.
The OP6 is fuelled by a 3300mAh battery. OnePlus promises that the 6 will easily last a day on average use, but if you do need to plug the phone in, there is support for Dash Charging. OnePlus bundles in an adapter and a fabricated USB-C cable which support Dash Charging.
OnePlus claims that the OP6 is water-resistant for "everyday" use, such as raindrops or drop in a puddle. OnePlus didn't share any IP rating to certify its claims but did state that the OP6 is not built for extreme conditions.
