Mi A2 Will Support QuickCharge 4.0 Only In India, Launching On 8th August
Xiaomi's first Android One smartphone, the Mi A1, was a huge success in India. Yesterday, the company announced two successors to the Mi A1: the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite. Out of the two devices, only the former will be sold in India. Xiaomi India has now announced via its Twitter handle that the Mi A2 is "coming to India on 8th August".
Xiaomi will be holding an event in New Delhi on the launch day. It's unclear whether the phone will go on sale on the same day, or later. The base variant (4GB+32GB) of the Mi A2 is expected to be priced at Rs 14,999, just like the Mi A1, while the higher models with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM and 128GB storage are expected to be made available at higher prices.
In addition to the launch date, Xiaomi has revealed that the Mi A2 will support QuickCharge 4.0 exclusively for India. In other markets, the device will be limited to QuicCharge 3.0. The Snapdragon 660 powering the Mi A2 supports QuickCharge 4.0, so the charging speed will be restricted in the international (non-Indian) variants via software. Unfortunately, though, Xiaomi won't be bundling a QuickCharge 4.0 compliant adapter. The charging brick in the box will be of 10W (5A/2V) which we see in almost every Xiaomi phone sold in the country. Xiaomi has confirmed that it has no plans of bringing a QC 4.0 charger to India, so you will have to get one yourself if you wish to enjoy the fast charging speeds on the Mi A2. A list of Qualcomm approved QuickCharge 4.0 chargers can be found here.
