[HURRY!] Honor Is Offering Limited Bootloader Unlock Codes On A First-Come-First-Served Basis
Back in July, Huawei stopped providing users with bootloader unlock codes. The company said that it wanted "to provide better user experience and avoid issues caused by ROM flashing." The move, as expected, drew a lot of backlash. In what I would call as a 'minor' turnaround, Huawei's sub-brand Honor is offering a limited number of bootloader unlock codes on a first-come-first-served basis.
To request for a bootloader unlock code, one must have an account on the XDA forums and an Honor device, of course. It's worth mentioning here that Huawei device owners can't apply for bootloader unlock codes. The process for requesting a bootloader unlock code is straightforward. You have to fill up this form which asks for your XDA username, email, IMEI, serial number, Product ID, and the reason why you want to unlock the bootloader. Although I'm sceptical about sending IMEI numbers through a random form, you will have to send it if you want to get the unlock code. An Honor representative on the XDA forums said that it might take "several weeks" to receive an unlock code, so you will have to have patience.
As a flashaholic (someone who regularly flashes ROMs) myself, I hope Huawei will re-open bootloader unlocking for all. That said, this is the first step in that direction. The unlock codes will only be shared with a limited number of users, so you better hurry if you want to get one.
