Xiaomi's latest MIUI beta is showing ads in the Settings app
In contrast to popular belief that Xiaomi earns by selling smartphones, the company, in fact, makes money by providing 'internet services', which includes advertisements (we covered about this in our last video). Xiaomi shows ads on many of the apps it ships in MIUI, such as the Mi Music Player and the Mi File Explorer Now a user on Reddit has reported that he is seeing ads within the Settings menu.

The Redditor said that he started seeing ads in Settings after he installed the latest MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM (v8.9.13). It isn't clear whether the ads are present in the China-specific beta v8.9.13. I went through the forum thread of the latest MIUI Global Beta and found several users complaining about the ads being "annoying" and "intrusive". Clearly, users aren't pleased.
There are tutorials on Xiaomi's MIUI forums which guide on disabling ads by toggling off recommendations. The Redditor claims that he has turned off recommendations, and despite that, he continues to see ads. If you don't want to deal with the ads, I would recommend against installing the latest MIUI beta and holding off until the next update, hopefully in which Xiaomi will revert its move. For rooted users, there are apps such as AdAway which can be used to block ads throughout the system.
