Nokia 8 Sirocco gets Android 9 Pie, manual update option available
Given that the Nokia 8 Sirocco was HMD Global's flagship smartphone of 2018, it was expected that the device would be among the first ones to get an update to Android Pie. However, that hasn't been the case. Nokia 8 Sirocco owners have waited for nearly five months for Pie to arrive, and it's finally here! The Nokia 8 Sirocco is now getting the latest Android treat via an OTA update.
Android 9 brings a bunch of new features with it. The major changes include a new gesture-based navigation system, a revamped user interface, adaptive brightness, app actions, adaptive battery, slices and enhancements to text selection. Because the 8 Sirocco is an Android One smartphone, you can expect to get the same vanilla Pie experience as you would get on a Pixel.
The update size is 1.3GB. The update might take a while to reach you but if you aren't willing to wait, there is a manual update option. To update manually download the update file from here, place it on your internal storage and then reboot your phone. You should now have Android 9 installed on your Nokia 8 Sirocco. The procedure for installing Pie manually was shared by a user on Nokia's community forums and several other users have confirmed that the method works.
