Persona's Founders Are Certain the World Can Use Another Humanoid Robot

Jerry Pratt and Nic Radford, both veterans in the robotics industry, have founded a new startup called Persona AI. This comes after Pratt's departure from Figure, a Bay Area-based robotics firm, where he served as CTO. Pratt made the announcement public last week on LinkedIn, revealing his new venture and stating that he is looking for 10 to 20 "founders" to join him in shaping the company.

According to Radford, the goal is to bring on board a diverse group of individuals who will help shape the company's vision and values. "We really want to illustrate to them the esprit de corps of the company," Radford explained.

At its early stage, Persona AI's pitch doesn't stray far from other humanoid firms. The company's website celebrates the technological breakthroughs that have made humanoids possible. The founders believe that now is the right time for the commercialization of humanoids, thanks to advancements in computer vision, electronics, mobility, and manipulation algorithms.

When asked about what sets Persona AI apart from its competitors, Radford was cryptic. "It's like the way GM feels themselves against Ford or Toyota or any car company. Every company feels, deep down, they've got certain competitive advantages. And then, deep down, every company's commoditized and distilled down into the same things. They all provide transportation. Do we have our version of the Dodge Hemi? We'd like to think so."

Persona AI will split its operations between Pensacola, Florida, and Houston, with the latter serving as the company's primary headquarters. The decision to base the company in these locations was partly due to geographical reasons, as Pratt had been commuting between Pensacola and California every two weeks while working at Figure.

While it's unclear what specific advantages Persona AI will bring to the table, the founders are confident that their vision will set them apart from the competition.
