Improving Android Updates: Qualcomm's Plan to Make it Easier for Phone Makers

Android updates have become a significant issue, particularly for lower-midrange and entry-level devices. While high-end devices usually receive timely updates, budget-friendly options often struggle to keep up. Qualcomm, a leading chipset manufacturer, aims to change this by making it easier for phone makers to issue Android updates.

The challenge lies in the fact that chipsets have a limited support window, which affects the frequency of updates. Even for higher-end devices, monthly security updates are not always a guarantee. This is where Qualcomm comes in, with a plan to simplify the process of issuing updates.

Qualcomm wants to make it easier for phone makers to issue big Android updates

According to Chris Patrick, SVP and General Manager of Handsets at Qualcomm, the company has been working on changing the structure of inline code to facilitate smoother updates. This effort is expected to benefit the entire ecosystem, ensuring that Android phones stay up-to-date.

Although details are scarce, Qualcomm is expected to make a significant announcement later this year, possibly at its annual Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii. While this doesn't mean that updates will magically start rolling out for all devices, it does offer hope for a more timely and efficient process.

In the meantime, phone makers and users alike will have to wait and see how Qualcomm's plan unfolds. One thing is certain, though - the need for efficient Android updates has never been more pressing.
