Qualcomm Wants to Simplify Android Updates for Phone Makers
Qualcomm is working to simplify the process of issuing Android updates for phone manufacturers. According to Chris Patrick, SVP and General Manager of Handsets at Qualcomm, the company has been working on making it easier for OEMs to keep their phones updated.
Patrick explained that getting security updates, Android version updates, and delivering them to end users is a complicated and expensive process. Qualcomm has been working with Google and OEMs to change the structure of inline code, making it easier for the ecosystem to keep Android phones up to date.
While there are no further details, Qualcomm is expected to make an announcement about the changes later this year. The company is planning to hold its annual Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii this October, where more information is likely to be shared.
Although this doesn't mean that things will change overnight, it's a positive step towards ensuring that updates arrive in a more timely fashion for all devices.
